The Government Statistician paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Honourable Alban S.K. Bagbin on Monday 10th May 2021. The purpose of the courtesy call was to formally brief the Speaker on the upcoming Population and Housing Census and outline the areas where parliamentary support is needed for the exercise. Prof Annim, the Government Statistician provided an overview of the 2021 PHC process and enumeration proceedures and the key activities before highlighting the areas where the strategic support of Parliament was needed to help make the census a success.
Rt Hon. Bagbin, based on his decades long experience in Parliament expressed his familiarity with the importance and the complexity of censuses. Indeed he mentioned that he did his national service at the Statistical Service, then the Central Bureau of Statistics, during the preparatory phase of the 1984 Census. Rt. Hon. Bagin pledged to support the census by providing a platform to engage Parliamentarians on the census and to record an advocacy video for the census highlighting the benefits of the census, the need for all to get counted and support the census as an inclusive national development activity.
